THE SOUNDS OF THE DOLOMITES
by Mariapia Ciaghi
The sounds of the Dolomites is a festival of music at a high
altitude, unique in its gender, able to blend in musicians coming
from all over the world, in the scenery of the most beautiful
mountains in Trentino. The event arranges, within the freedom
of nature, the great passions for music and mountains, arts
and environment. Being almost a festival within the festival,
“The Sounds of the Dolomites”, foresees also four
appointments in the almost unreal atmosphere of the birth of
the day. We are talking about the “Dawn of the Dolomites”,
where the game of these mountains’ typical colours, the
shades of the red and the yellow spread at the back of great
artists who attempt to become one with the sorrounding environment.
“Are they stones or clouds? Are they true or a dream?...”
These are the questions which Dino Buzzati, a writer who, more
than anybody else, has managed to sing the charm, the mystery
and the silences of the Dolomites, used to ask himself when
looking at these still giants that fascinated him so deeply.
During the 2006 edition, from July 1st to August 27th, important
names on the national and international artistic scene will
perform. Theirs are great names such as Vinicius Cantuaria,
Vinicio Capossela, and Ivano Fossati and some special projects
will take life, thought especially for the Festival. Banda Osiris
will transform a chairlift into a mobile theatre with their
Andante Sospeso; the dance company Project Bandaloop will propose
aerial coreographies of the walls of the Punta Emma on the Vajolet.
While Giorgio Battistelli will be measuring himself with a pastoral
opera dedicated to the mountain grazing for musicians, malga
instruments, cows and cowbells, Fabio Biondi will present in
his concert on the lakes of San Giuliano (Saint Julian’s
Lakes), songs by Biber, Telemann, Tartini, Locatelli and Paganini.
Three appointments in a row are specifically dedicated to Mozart
on the 250th anniversary: interpreters will be Mario Brunello,
Marco Rizzi and Danilo Rossi, the Woodwind of Mozart Orchestra
directed by Claudio Abbado, and the Italian Arches Orchestra.
The actor Marco Paolini, together with the singer Francesca
Breschi and the musicians Mario Brunello, Paolo Fresu and Giovanni
Solimma, will carry the appointments on the dawns dedicated
to Dino Buzzati of whom we celebrate, this year, the 100th birth
anniversary.
