Lanfranco Colombo: PHOTOGRAMS OF A LIFE
Published by Allemandi & C
Lanfranco Colombo was one of the most important cultural operators in the field of Italian photography during the second half of the 20th-century. Founder of the first European gallery dedicated exclusively to photography in 1967, Colombo was the first exponent of some of the most important experiences in photographic publishing with the publisher "il Diaframma" and the magazine "Popular Photography Italiana" which in 1972 became "Il Diaframma Fotografia Italiana".
During these decades he also organised exhibitions, won awards, wrote, received recognitions and had honours bestowed upon him. On the occasion of an exhibition some years ago, Colombo wrote of himself and his life: "Almost a champion in many sports [...]. Journalist first, worker second [...]. Few women but one lover for certain, by the name of Photograph" So there you have it. If one wanted to say precisely what Lanfranco Colombo was and continues to be, then his own words would suffice: A lover of photography. With an essay by Arturo Carlo Quintavalle and the photographs of Giuliana Traverso. |
