LEARNING FROM NATURE Mariateresa Maresca

When you're surrounded by nature the body reacts and therefore takes in a deep breath!
The body's voice has been heard since ancient times and when humans are able to hear it and follow it, they begin to acknowledge all the conflicting behaviours that govern it. Once these behaviours are identified and if a person is willing to improve and heal, then he/she can change these behaviours by embracing natural habits: a healther lifestyle, healthy foods and beverages, positive thoughts.
One of the most important things in order to enjoy good health is to give your body the right amount of oxygen; that is why living close to nature or periodically visiting a nature haven helps you cleanse your body, gives your blood the right amount of fresh air thus making it healthier.
We can say that illness is a sort of alarm, the only one that the body has in order to let us know that something is off balance and that we must react immediately.
The holistic approach to illness perceives humans as a group of many functions interconnected between themselves, where feelings and thoughts have a precise role in keeping a healthy state or causing an imbalance. This is what the ancients meant with: “mens sana in corpore sano” (a sound mind in a healthy body).

The defence system of the human body is the immune system and man’s task is to keep it strong and ready to attack any aggressive invasion to the body's organs. Today studies have shown that the intestine has a fundamental role in keeping the body’s defences high. There are many lymph nodes in the intestine therefore it is important to have a healthy one and in order to have one a person must eat natural, healthy non-processed foods, combined with good exercise providing a good amount of oxygen together with constant ab muscle movements. In fact breathing and exercise makes the peristalsis move thus helping digestion and movement of the inner walls of the intestine where vital functions are carried out such as the absorption of nutrients, selection of waste, increase in “good” intestinal flora (very vital for the health of the entire body) and continuous dynamic balance of “bad” intestinal flora which must never prevail because it causes bad digestion, an increase in fats in the blood and disorders such as colitis and blood poisoning.

Also the good balance of blood with an alkaline ph, ideal in order to have a strong immune system, depends on healthy eating and living close to nature. Chemical substances contained in processed foods and beverages totally destroys this balance.
Today the entire social system controls the excessive use of medications and, fortunately, also media plays an important role in warning us about the abuse of over-the-counter medicines.
There are cures that nature provides us with that are very useful for fighting illnesses. Being aware of these remedies will help us reduce the side effects of chemical products allowing our bodies to strengthen the immune system against viruses, bacteria, fungus and parasites.
Therefore it is best to, if it’s not possible to live close to nature, at least visit and stay for longer periods of time during the year in pure and natural surroundings in order to stay healthy.
