A 24 hour mountain bike ride from Val Rendena to Rome is the new challenge at the 2009 edition, with a prize for whoever covers the distance between the Dolomites and the Capital during the two competitions. It is a fun new idea very much in the spirit of the 24 CUP, Italy’s seven-stage endurance circuit, perfectly combining competitive and amateur sport, a drive to win and a spot of fun, rivalry and friendship, competition and time out. So, after getting up at the crack of dawn to take a dip in the Golfo di Patti and taste fresh milk and warm ricotta at Agritur Porticella, the bikers set off in the graceful hills of the Parco al Po outside Cremona. They then enjoy a fine cycle along the banks of the Lago d’Idro and a tougher one on the slopes of Monte Amiata in the area of Siena. In September the brightly coloured group of cyclists reaches Val Rendena for a sprint along the 170 km Dolomiti Brenta Bike circuit in the stunning Adamello Brenta Nature Park and dinner at the refuge, to then head back south towards Rome and gather at the Parco degli Acquedotti Romani. Winners and losers are not announced until October when, at the “Ville del Palladio”, prizes are awarded during the Gran Galà MTB of the Fiera del Ciclo di Montichiari.
