Writing about a certain subject isn’t like it was years ago; nowadays, it’s usual to write a text using one of the new technologies that have brought changes in many areas since they were introduced, of which this was one of the first. Nevertheless, certain practices and conceptual procedures remain unchanged, such as those that the author of this piece discerns in the world of politics, where it is necessary to divide to govern and conspire to dominate.

Empires do not govern: Empires dominate. So, Empires conspire and conspire inside and outside their borders forty-eight hours a day, if possible. In any case, like every other human endeavour, the actions of Empires are prone to short-sightedness and procedural errors that have transcendent implications. Without doubt, the Internet/World Wide Web is one these, whose origins we are, today, unable to conceive of. The Internet was not created by an extremely generous Pentagon so that the peoples of the world would be united by easy-to-access, low-cost communications. The accident that created this system for reaching almost everyone on the face of the earth, weakening the meaning of distance and time, which now seems to fly, transformed it into a tool for radical change. The Internet, which was created to hold the Empire together in the case of a devastating nuclear attack, slipped out of the control of security operators and put down roots. The world has changed!
In December 1970, during an interview on the main Latin American TV channel, the late Trevor Howard, the English actor, said that communications would dominate the world at the end of the millennium. He could not have imagined that the Internet would arrive to play that role.
The many innovations brought by the new means of communication include social networking and here, in Brazil, we have a Portuguese version of Orkut  Büyükkökten’s invention, which started a national craze for cybernetics in April 2005. Orkut is a meeting place for people with average, low and very low incomes who spend hours and hours using this new means of expression to describe their lives, obviously, reaching unconceivable limits of self-exposure that go beyond the limits of decency and the law. There are almost 40 million people who live on air and… Orkut.
“Why do I spend so many hours on Orkut’s website? Well,” one user replied, “it’s like keeping in touch with family and friends that I haven’t seen for a long time, it’s like becoming young again. Then, I also use it to get beautiful girls to fall in love with me and post their photographs, so I can imagine that I’m in a serious, long-term relationship.
” Without much resistance, it has become a rallying point for people who are living a globalised existence and the question is whether or not this new configuration is changing individual behaviour and, thus, the society they live in. The answer is “yes” and this means that we must not lose our traditions and historic truths. The problem arises when we forget our roots and confront new challenges as if they were the only ways to go, at times comprising part of a past rich with knowledge and experience even if it is certain that this remains a personal or group choice.
Then, a professional woman, who works as a prostitute in her free time, commented from Malecón de L’Avana: “This work increases my family’s income and, in addition, I’m collaborating with my beloved country to generate hard currency.”
Another professional, with an excellent government job, whose position allows him to participate in Brazilian politics, discussing and defending revolutionary opinions – all, it’s understood, against the Empire – calmly and conveniently explains one of his more outrageous proposals while he listens to Muzak in his air-conditioned office: “the countries of Latin America should organise and create their own money to unite them.” And what should this new money be called? “Simple, the money should be called the ‘Che’ in honour of the Cuban hero, the Argentinean Ernesto Che Guevara”.
But neither he nor the creators of the Euro, which is celebrating its tenth birthday, realise that, now, creating the “Che,” etc., is useless because any money will always be bound to the famous “hard currency”. Hard currency meaning the US Dollar! The same hard currency very responsibly referred to by the young jinetera (escort) from Malecón de L’Avana.
We live in this globalised world that has no frontiers of opinion, thought, language and customs, except for the physical ones that, due to questions of protocol and distrust, we insist on maintaining through customs barriers and passports, and rightly so, because of the poor who emigrate from here to there and, because, they surely want to have their piece of the pie. In any case, whatever the price, no one can escape the Empire’s control.
The Euro, the single currency of the second most important area on Earth, is still trailing doubts about this experiment unheard-of in economic history. When the single currency was established, Germany knew that it had nothing to gain from an economic, if not political, point of view but still seems to miss the Deutsche Mark. Spain and Ireland experienced a golden age. Italy began to feel that it was in decline. While Portugal has remained frozen in time. It’s not easy to tell what role the Euro has played in those countries.
One thing is certain: the service businesses connected to the exchange of the new currency have enormous profit margins on the very money that enters their coffers. This is to say that the official value of the Euro is one thing and its commercial value when it is transformed at the moment of its manipulated conversion to the Dollar is another.
The intermediaries are usually companies of the Empire, and they are the ones who really benefit from the Euro in that position. The reader can imagine what would happen with the “Che”. Well, in less than two or three months, the currency would be completely unused and would have become a plaything of the Empire, even if the Empire can’t play anymore because its knees are knocking due to the economic crisis. But, even here, it hasn’t lost its cunning, in fact, here comes the BOS – the Barack Obama Solution.
The push towards globalisation through the Internet was used to select a new President of the United States. On January 20th of this year, the Regent or, to be more explicit, the Emperor took on the task of saving it from its inevitable destiny. In other words, the crash of all crashes, complete bankruptcy with a population of 30 million unemployed making their way through a sea of misery or through the sands of a desert that you only know because you created it in other countries. But now, as if it were a question of karma, experience has turned against the Empire like something that repays evil with the same coin. But capitalism doesn’t waste time on these types of reflections.
The BOS – Barack Obama Solution – fell from the sky. What does a young man, half white and half black, become when he grows up in a white environment? Simple: at least that’s what happens here in Brazil. A black with the soul of a white man! A latest-generation Mameluke. He was raised and educated to be a normal white man, but he’s not. God knows what he must have lived through during his childhood and youth in a country fed by racism and exacerbated hatred, like the news from the Empire in the last three hundred years.
In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if, instead of a solution, it was only a conspiracy. Yes, the BOC – Barack Obama Conspiracy, is what is wanted by the WASPs – White Anglo-Saxon Protestants – the ones that decimated the Indians that inhabited the future USA, where they enslaved the Blacks that they brought from Africa against their will. The WASPs, who are the majority, would have pushed the Empire’s treasury and reserves to the edge of ruin through ignorance, pride, wasted economic and political power, corrupt and dishonest acts, death and bestially useless and stupid wars, ingredients that have, consecutively, led to the debacle of Empires.
