The landscape begins with words: the sentiment of those who have lived their throughout time. The landscape begins to live anew when I begin to “interpret it” with the words of the earth (the place names) that the people who lived there have written upon it over the course of time. The “map” that our magazine has been looking to chart since its birth is a linguistic support for reading and enjoying the landscape designed by time: a synchronic method for interpreting as a whole, ecology, history, evolution, transformation….
The landscape is the product of many factors: the five senses projected into it by humanity; the living beings; the natural agents; the progress and the action of time. Despite that, man is the first to modify the landscape. The landscape is not unchangeable nor is it passive. It is aesthetic, yet not ecstatic. It is active and dynamic in constant and progressive change. It is the product and never the sum of past, present and project. The creative and recreational function of those who contemplate the landscape must always exist, and hence, so must criticism. In order to project it towards the future, we have to observe how the landscape is in concrete terms, what it is for, what it can produce and how we can utilise it, what attention it requires to be maintained and how can it be transformed without being plundered or contaminated. The function of our Eco can be nothing more than an individual and group reflection on living the landscape in a rational and sustainable manner.
